What a real Meta ads audit actually looks at

Emma Viteri · July 8, 2026 · 5 min read

The word "audit" gets thrown around a lot in paid social. Most of what passes for one is a dashboard screenshot and a handful of generic tips you could have found on any blog.

A real audit is a full teardown. It tells you exactly where your money is leaking, why, and what to fix first. After a decade doing this, here are the four things I actually dig into.

1. Account structure

This is where the biggest, cheapest wins usually hide. Are campaigns consolidated enough for the algorithm to actually learn, or is your budget spread across a dozen tiny ad sets that never exit the learning phase? Are your audiences overlapping and bidding against each other? Fixing structure often lifts performance without touching creative or spend.

2. Creative and its cadence

I count how many concepts are genuinely live, how old they are, and how different they really are from one another. This surfaces fatigue, whether there's any real testing discipline, and whether the creative even matches the stage of the funnel it's running in.

3. Signals and measurement

You can't optimize what you're measuring wrong. Are you optimizing for the right conversion event? Is your pixel and server-side tracking clean and firing correctly? Is your attribution telling you the truth, or are you steering the whole account with a broken compass?

4. The funnel after the click

The best ad in the world can't save a landing page that doesn't convert. I look at the full path, not just the auction: the offer, the page, the friction, the follow-up. Often the ad account is fine and the real leak is one step later.

You walk away with a prioritized fix list, ranked by impact, that you can act on within a week, whether you work with me or not. Knowing where to look is most of the battle.
